Everyone loves hemp seeds! Although there was lots to go around, if the crop is left for too long in the field hemp seed loving birds will eat more than you might expect.
This 10 by 10 plot was left standing after the rest of the field was combined, and in two weeks birds had stripped it clean. Increased shattering also reduces yields if harvesting is delayed.
The combine unloads its day's work - piles of fresh, and surprisingly clean hemp seed! Nonetheless, the seed required immediate attention to remove the bits of stalk (mostly hurds) and other vegative matter which otherwise would have impeded drying.
Despite small handling losses (a small percentage of broken seed casings and green seeds), the seed was generally of very high quality.
...and it all came from just a few of these bags ('Chanvre monoique' Cannabis Sativa L. Fedora 19)
