Even though fat has become a four-letter word to many, it is still the substance that lubricates the world's machines and bodies. The soybean contains only 17.5% fat, compared to 30% in Hemp Seed (that's Hemp Seed has less protein). Of soybean's fat, only 7% is the essential fatty acid Linolenic Acid, and 50% is the other essential fatty acid Linoleic Acid (with a LNA:LA ratio of 1:7). But essential fatty acids are why Hemp Seed is most remarkable.
Of the 30% fat in Hemp Seed, 20% of it is Linolenic Acid and 60% is Linoleic Acid, with a ratio of 1:3, considered to be the optimum balance (and the only place it's found in nature is in Hemp Seed!). Plus Hemp Seed also contains Gamma-Linolenic Acid (GLA), the good fatty acid found in fish oil, while soybean has none. So not only does Hemp Seed have 70% more oil than soybean (making it economically more valuable), the quality of the oil is far more nutritious than soybean.
Moreover, the majority of soybeans now grown in North America are genetically modified. You wouldn’t know it by looking at the labels since neither the Canadian nor American governments require labelling of genetically modified foods. But recent scientific studies have found that such genetic modification of food may pose serious health risks. Is there any alternative?
Why not try hemp seed food products? Like soy, hemp seed is also very high in protein, and is higher is healthy essential fatty acids. More importantly, nature has already modified hemp to be pest and weed resistant. That’s right, hemp is already the ideal organic crop, no genetic engineering required.
